The Dhokra castings of figurines and different animals with their antique look, fit for interior decoration. Dhokra is an alloy of brass, nickel and zinc that gives an antique effect to the castings. The craft gets its name from the original metal smiths of Bengal, who are called Dhokras (a tribe).
In this type of metal casting, a lost wax technique is used which is also called as hollow casting. The method is used to produce figures of gods and goddesses, different types of lamps and jewellery. Anklets, necklaces and bangles are the most common jewellery items that are produced through this process.
