Onam is the national festival of Kerala, which marks the homecoming of the mythological King Mahabali, who is believed to have ruled Kerala long ago. Besides this mythological backdrop, the festival is also held as a post-harvest celebration and hence considered as a period of plenty and happiness for one and all in Kerala.
