The Festivals of Kerala Part I

Kerala, God’s Own Country is famous for its multifarious culture and the festivals which are well-stocked with colors and sound. The festivals celebrated in Kerala are associated with the cultures and the traditions of the state.

Onam, the festival of harvest is considered as the first among them. The Keralites (the people of Kerala) celebrate Onam with extreme pride and happiness as they believe it as the time of peace and prosperity. The Sadya (feast) is the inevitable part of the Onam festival.

In Kerala many festivals are associated with temple rituals. As you can see in this video, the festivals are colorful and have their own importance in the history of the state.

The boat race is another major fiesta celebrated in Kerala and thousands throng to witness it. Native sports, art forms, processions and fairs are the main attractions during these festivals.
