Kalaripayattu

Kalaripayattu is a martial art form which had its origin in Kerala, India in the 12th century. It is a traditional art form and is considered as the mother of all martial arts. Kalaripayattu has its own historical value since it is a very old martial art form. During the olden times it was meant for self protection. Kalari means training ground and the word payattu means fight. The concept of fight form in Kalaripayattu is different in different regions of Kerala which includes northern style, southern style and the central style. Kalaripayattu played a major role in Kerala’s history and even now it has its own significance as a martial art.
