Paramekkavu Bhagavati Temple is one of the two major participants of Thrissur Pooram, the most famed festival of Kerala.
The temples of Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi are friendly rivals in the pooram with both sides vying each other to present the best, whether it be illumination or Kudamattam, the competitive display of colourful parasols atop caparisoned elephants.
The ceremonial procession with fifteen caparisoned elephants from Paramekkavu temple to the Vadakkumnathan temple premises, where the festival is held, is a captivating sight.
Elephant pageantry and traditional percussion orchestras like Panchavadyam and Pandimelam are other attractions of this grand festival at Thrissur (Trichur), Kerala, India. |
