Thekkady

Thekkady one of the most popular tourist destination located on the banks of Periyar River in Idukki district, Kerala State, India. Thekkady town, near the Periyar wildlife sanctuary, a lovable destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Thekkady is the gateway to the sanctuary.

Periyar Willife sanctuary is noted for the presence for tigers was declared as a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Elephants, Gaur, Sambar deer and wild boar are some of the mammals found in the evergreen forests here. Trekking options are available. There is a scenic lake inside the sanctuary where boating options are available. The cruise is unique for its one among the few in the world that offers such close sight of wildlife.
