The National Library, Kolkata

The National Library at Kolkata is the first public library established in the whole of eastern India. Being the capital of the British East India Company, Calcutta was the hub of all intellectual and academic activities. The library has a special wing for Indian language divisions and has a collection of rare books and valuable manuscripts. The National Library was the residence of the former lieutenant Governor General of Bengal.
