Saraswatichandra - 1968

Cinematic adaptation of Goverdhanram Tripathi's famous Gujarati novel, Saraswatichandra, the 1968 released Saraswatichandra is a social drama. Starring Nutan, Manish, Ramesh Deo and Surendra, the film tells the story of early 20th century feudal India.

Directed by Govind Saraiya, Saraswatichandra was the last Bollywood film made in black and white. The film also won the National Awards for best cinematography and music for Nariman Irani and Kalyanji-Anandji respectively.

Some of the classic songs by Kalyanji – Anandji for Saraswatichandra are “Phool tumhe bheja hai khhat mein, “Chandan sa badan, chanchal chitvan”, “ Hamne apna sab kuch choda pyar tera pane ko” and “Main to bhool chali babul ka desh piya ka ghar pyara lege.”
