Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi

The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library is situated to the south of Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi. India. The museum has been functioning as an autonomous organization since 1st April, 1966. The library is considered to be one of the best research centres for Modern Indian History with reference to the Nehru era.

The museum is housed in a large mansion popularly known as the Teen Murti House, situated on the Teen Murti Road in New Delhi. This house, designed by Robert Tor Russel was once the official residence of the British commander-in-chief of the Indian army. The building obtained its name from the cenotaph in front of it, commemorating the four Indian cavalry regiments which distinguished themselves during the First World War. It consists of a square tapering pillar with statures of four dismounted cavalry men on its four sides. Since only three of them are visible when viewed from any one side, the locals called them Teen (three) Murti (idol) and the house behind as Teen Murti Bhavan.

Later this colonial building became the residence of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Soon after his death, the Government of India dedicated Teen Murti House in memory of Jawaharlal Nehru.
