The Chenda legacy of Kerala

The percussion instrument Chenda of Kerala, South India is quite unique. This drum is a mandatory accompaniment to performances of many unique art forms of Kerala and local festivals.

Chendamelam, or the ritual playing of chenda, has several styles known as thayambaka, pandimelam, pancharimelam, etc.
