Kanchipuram Saree

Known for its rare colour combination, Kanchipuram sarees are the traditional handloom silk sarees, which have their origin in the temple town of Kanchipuram in the State of Tamil Nadu in India.

Kanchipuram has been producing silk saris for the past 150 years.

These heavy silk saris are woven with elaborate zari borders and the end pieces are woven using petni technique, by which two coloured threads are woven together in such a fine way that one cannot see the joint.

The patterns woven in a Kanchipuram saree are traditionally taken from the elaborately carved stone pillars found in the temples of Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram or Kancheepuram still produces a huge amount of silk saris with the same petni technique and elaborate pallu and borders, but now, it is better known for its beautiful heavy silk.
