Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai

Haji Ali is a famous mosque in Mumbai (Bombay). It was built in the year 1431 by a rich Muslim merchant Haji Ali. It is located on an island off the coast of Worli.

People from all the parts of India visit the mosque to pay homage. It is said that a great saint drowned in the place where the mosque is now situated. A large number of pilgrims visit this mosque especially on Thursdays and Fridays to obtain the blessings of the saint. The mosque is built in the indo-islamic style of architecture.

Since it is located on an island, this mosque is connected to the Mahalakshmi area by a walkway. You can’t reach the mosque if the tides are very high. The mosque covers an area of 4500 meters. The tomb within this mosque is covered with a red and green sheet having a silver frame.
