Enroute to Joshimath

Joshimath, one of the four monasteries or maths set up in the 8th century by Adi Guru Sri Shankaracharya, is a popular Hindu pilgrim destination located in the Chamoli district of Garhwal division in Uttarakhand state of India.

A renowned hill station, Joshimath in ancient scriptures was described as Karthikeyapura as it was named after Karthikeya, the God of Katyuri kings. The place is ideal for trekkers as it leads the way to the famous Valley of Flowers. The temple dedicated to Narashima, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is the major attraction in Joshimath.

Some other temples are dedicated to Hanuman, Gaurishankar, Ganesha, and Naudevi and Surya. The best time to visit Joshimath and for the trek is from mid July till end of August.
