Alfred Park - popular hang out in Allahabad

Built in memory of the visit of Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh to Allahabad, the Alfred Park, popularly known as Company Garden, is the largest park in Allahabad, State of Uttar Pradesh, India. People in and around Allahabad often visit this park for a walk or to unwind.

The garden has its own historic significance as you can come across huge statues of King George V and Queen Victoria of the British period. Sprawling over an area of 133 acres, it took around eight years to complete this garden, which attained its fame during the freedom struggle of India.

Chandrashekhar Azad, the famous Indian revolutionary sacrificed his life at this place during an encounter between the British. After independence this park was renamed and dedicated to the great martyr Chandrashekhar Azad and a statue of Azad has been installed at the place of his encounter.
