I started learning Ottan Thullal at the age of 8. Learned it for 2 years. Simultaneously made stage performances too. Then started learning Kathakali at Koodallur Mana in Nagalasseri Panchayath near Pattambi under the guidance of late Thekkinkattu Ravunni Nair. He was the first disciple of Pattikamthodi Ravunni Menon. Learned there for one
year. Later joined Kalamandalam, Cheruthuruthi in Thrissur in the year 1951.
