Bamboo, the treasure of Assam

 Assam, a state in hte north-east of India, is blessed with thick  forests with rich flora. The villages here present a harmonious look abundant with bamboo and have homes made of bamboo. The bamboo forests here protect the slopes from erosion and are home to many endangered wildlife species including a large number of birds.

Bamboo is an integral part of the cultural, social and economic traditions of Assam. Bamboo is a renewable and versatile resource and is a major component of the wealth of Assam. The people utilize it in many ways, for housing, fencing, functional articles, agricultural implements, basketry and for making many other useful artifacts.
