The Kamakhya Temple, situated in the Nilachal Hills (Kamagiri) near Guwahati is in Assam state, north-eastern India. This Sati (an incarnation of the mother goddess and consort of lord Shiva) temple is one of the rare centres for Tantric and Shakti cult of worship in Hinduism.

The temple is regarded as one of the seats of Shakti associated with the legend of Lord Shiva and Daksha Yagna. The temple architecture is considered to be in one of the oldest styles in India. The temple is also replete with rare stone edicts.
