The craft of pottery is as old as the human civilisation. In Assam there are two traditional potter communities – the Kumars and the Hiras. An interesting fact is that the Hiras are probably the only potters in the world who do not use the wheel at all. The most commonly made products include earthern pots, pitchers and plates.
