Weaving Silk Saree in Sualkuchi, Assam

The village of Sualkuchi is situated in Kamrup district of Assam state in India. This village is considered as the center of silk production in Assam. The silk sarees made in this village are of high demand around the country.

This video shows a group of weavers in Sualkuchi village, busily engaged in making Muga silk sarees. This type of silk is considered as the costliest in the world.

The word Muga means yellowish in Assamese. Muga silk clothes are more durable than the other silks and they can be used for many years.
