A musical dance drama released in 1955, Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje was directed by V. Shantaram. One of the prior Technicolor films of Bollywood, the film explores the basic technique of Kathak dance form of India. Besides Kathak, the film also shows different styles of classical dances of India.
The story of the film depicts, a dedicated classical dancer who is committed to propagate classical dance and to win a national level dance competition. The famous dance master Gopikrishna did the role of the classical dancer and the director Shantaram’s wife Sandhya as the heroine.
The music of the film was by Vasant Desai and songs like “Jhanak jhanak payal baaje,” “Suno Suno Suno Ji,” “Murli Manohar,” “Nain So Nain Nahi Mila” are from this film.
