In 1958 director/producer B.R. Chopra came with one of the best productions in his career – Sadhana. The film was a social drama discussing the issue of prostitution with a different perspective.
Sadhana stars Vyjayanthimala and Sunil Dutt in lead roles. Other cast includes with with Leela Chitnis, Radhakrishan, Manmohan Krishna, Uma Dutt and Ravikant. The narrative pivots around the life of a prostitute and the tribulations brought in to her life by a college professor. The film implicitly raises questions about the status of prostitutes in a civilized society and the stigma that is usually attached to their life.
Films impressive songs were the work of music director Datta Naik and lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi who were backed by singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Bhupinder Singh, Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhosle.
