About 'Banaras Silk Saree '

Varanasi or Banaras, the holy city in Uttar Pradesh, is noted for its silk saree called Banarsi Saree. These sarees came into popularity during the Mughal times. This exquisite dress has witnessed a continuous growth in demand all over the world.

Its design exhibits  Mughal patterns. Banarsi saree is ranked among the finest traditional sarees of India. In the video, it is seen exhibited at Surajkund Crafts Mela, the annual craft fair conducted by Haryana Tourism.

Banarsi Saree itself contains various styles like katan (pure silk), organza with golden thread (zari) work and georgette. The major attraction of these sarees is its colourful dying of silk fabric. Their designs have the essence of the traditional folk art. They come in all shades. These sarees are quite heavy due to their rich embroidery.
