Blue Pottery from Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh has a very old and famous tradition in the craft of blue pottery. The use of blue gaze on pottery made from Multani mitti or Fuller’s earth is a skilled technique. It drew inspiration from Mughals and Chinese glazing technology with Persian decorative arts.

Glazed pottery with white background and blue and green patterns is developed in Khurja, Chunar and Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, India. Khurja is famous for its cheap and tough tableware.

These beautiful pottery items are exhibited at Surajkund Crafts Fair, an annual fair by Haryana Tourism which promotes the rich handicraft and handloom tradition of India.
