About 'Dhokra casting of Orissa'

Dhokra metal casting is practiced by some tribal artisans of Orissa. Lost-wax technique, one of the oldest practices in metal casting is made use of in this. Dhokra casting is now concentrated in some pockets of the state.

Beautiful designs of lamps, boxes, tribal figures, gods and goddesses are cast with the raw materials of brass and other miscellaneous items which give it an antique look. A mixture of brass, nickel and zinc is also used.

These exquisite sculptures are exhibited in Surajkund Crafts Mela, an initiative by Haryana Tourism to promote the handicraft and handloom tradition of India.
