Shakti Sthal is the cremation ground of India’s first and only woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It is located north of Vir Bhumi, the cremation ground of her son Rajiv Gandhi, on the Ring Road, New Delhi.
She was the third Prime Minister of independent India and also the daughter of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. She was assassinated by her own body guards on 31st October 1984.
The memorial is a huge grayish red monolithic stone. Shakti Sthal literally means the‘place of power’. |
