Kerala Kalamandalam is a unique centre of classical arts, providing specialized training in Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kutiyattam, and Thullal. Situated at Cheruthuruthy, Thrissur, this reputable centre was started by the poet Mahakavi Vallathol Narayana Menon and Manakulam Mukunda Raja in 1930. The ancient gurukula system of training in which the disciples stay with the masters and learn is followed here. Kalamandalam is situated near Bharathapuzha (River Nila).
