In matters of blending spirituality with the day to day life of human beings, India has no equals anywhere in the world. Yoga is a fine specimen to this. This ancient system of knowledge is more or less a way of life, which influences even the subtle aspects of human existence.
In Yoga, there are certain forms of exercises called asanas, which improve body flexibility in addition to strengthening muscles. It is also a way of relieving mental stress through specific body postures.
In his book Yoga Sutra, Patanjali has recommended eight stages of yoga discipline- Yamas (restrains), niyamas (surrender of the ego), asanas (physical postures), pranayama (control of breath), partyahara (withdrawl of the senses), dharana (contemplation), dhyana (meditation) and samadhi (attainment of super conscious state).
Now, Yoga has become one of the most practiced disciplines in the world. Apart from imparting physical and mental well being, Yoga also helps one to have a better understanding of oneself and improve his or her personality.
