Charan, a major community living especially in the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan is well known for their bravery in wars and martyrdom.

As per the belief the women members of this community are adored as the mother goddesses by various other communities including the Rajput rulers. A majority of people in this community earn their livelihood by cattle rearing.
