A Mizhavu is a huge copper pot with its mouth covered by leather. It is mainly used as the lead percussion for Kutiyattam and other traditional dance forms.

Mizhavu Thayambaka is a massed performance of percussion instruments especially accomplished during Kutiyattam, one of the oldest classical dance forms which originated in Kerala.
