Chakratirtha and Rishyamukha Hill at Hampi

Chakratirtha, Hampi’s most sacred bathing ghat in Tungabhadra River and in local language it means ‘the sacred water body that swirls’. It is located near the Kodandarama temple at Hampi. This sacred river is surrounded by the Matunga Hill and Rishyamukha Hill in south and north respectively.

One can see along the bank of the river an open pavilion on the hillside. It has been said that this was built as a shelter to the pilgrims who thronged the area ever since this temple came into being.

Hampi, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is situated at Hospet village in Belleri district, Karnataka state, India.
