Rangoli or floral design is a traditional art of India popular all over the nation with regional names. Such as Kolam in Tamil Nadu, Muggu in Andhra Pradesh, Rangavalli in Maharashtra, Sathiya in Gujarat, Mandana in Rajasthan, Chowk Purna in Madhya Pradesh, Ossa in Orissa and Apana in Bengal.
In Karnataka it is known as Rangoli and here typically the designs are created using the powder of a special kind of a stone. Tiny dots are drawn on the floor and these dots are joined in a geometrical fashion using the powder. Rangoli is a women's art in south India with spiritual overtones and is also a means of decorating the home. It is believed that these Rangolis in front of the home bring beauty to the surroundings and spreads joy and happiness to all.
