About 'Vijanebatha– Kathakalipadam'

Video of the padam ‘Vijanebatha’ in Nalacharitham Kathakali (third day). The song is rendered in the Raga ‘Thodi’. Kathakalipadams are the songs that accompany a Kathakali performance. In addition to Mudras (gestures) and Abhinaya (action), these songs are also used to narrate the story of a play. The language of the padams is a mixture of Sanskrit and Malayalam.

The singers are Kottakkal Madhu and Vengeri Narayanan Namboothiri. Mr. Madhu is a senior faculty member of P.S.V. Natyasangham, Kottakkal, a reputed Kathakali training centre and troupe. The percussions maddalam and chenda are played by Kalanilayam Babu and Margi Krishnadas respectively.
