About 'Kamsavadham– 2'

An excerpt from Kamsavadham, a popular play of Nangiarkoothu is enacted here. Nangiarkoothu, the ancient female solo dance of Kerala, adopts stories for performance from the classic text Sree Krishna Charitham, a depiction of Lord Krishna’s life and deeds. Kamsavadham or the ‘Killing of Kamsa’ is an important episode from this text.

Nangiarkoothu has an antiquity of 1500 years and is an allied art of Kutiyattam. Kutiyattam, the Sanskrit theatre of Kerala, is two millennia old and has been recognized by the UNESCO as one of the ‘Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’. Margi Sathi, an accomplished artiste, is seen performing here. Presently she is a faculty of Kutiyattam at Kerala Kalamandalam.
