The Navarasas form the basis of Rasa-abhinaya in Indian classical dances such as Kathakali, Bharathanatyam and Kutiyattam. They are used to convey various emotions through a variety of facial expressions and hand gestures. The nine emotions are sringara (amour), Hasyam (comic), karunam (pathetic), raudram (furious), viram (heroic), bhayanakam (terrible), bibhatsam (odious), adbhutham (wonder) and santam (tranquility). In the video, Kalamandalam Shailaja presents these nine emotions.
