Duffmuttu is a performing art form popular in the Muslim community of north Kerala. Performed both as a ritual and as social entertainment during festivals and nuptial ceremonies, this is a group dance with artists beating on a quaint round percussion instrument called the duff. While the leader of the group sings, others form the chorus and dance in circles beating the duff rhythmically. The songs are often tributes to martyrs, heroes and saints.
