About 'Chandanakkudam Festival at Kanjiramattom mosque'

The Kanjiramattom mosque at Ernakulam district is believed to have been built as a memorial to Sheikh Fariduddin. The ‘Chandanakkudam’ is held here annually in January as a ritual that goes together with the ‘Kodikutthu’ festival. Believers go on a procession with pots covered by sandalwood paste, and hence the name ‘Chandanakkudam’ (Sandal wood Pot). The procession held at night is accompanied by six caparisoned elephants. Traditional Muslim art forms like Oppana, Duffumuttu, Mappilappattu etc are performed during the festival day.
