Kodungalloor or Kodungallur Bharani is the most awaited festival of Kerala and during the Malayalam month of Meenam (March / April) we see the whole of Kerala geared up at the Kodungallur Bhagavathi temple in Thrissur district to witness this event.

The festival is noted for the thandava tremors of the oracles or Velichappadus (revealers of light), who come from different parts of the state, dressed in the Mahogany to embody the mystic tradition of centuries.

A day before the Bharani, is the event Chandanapodi Chartal or the smearing of the idol with sandal paste.
