About 'Pattambi nercha – festival at the Pattambi mosque'

Pattambi Nercha is the annual feast at the Pattambi Mosque, Palakkad. It is celebrated in memory of Aloor Valiya Pookunjikoya Thangal, a Muslim saint who lived in Malabar.

Many rituals and offerings are performed as part of the festival. The festival is a colourful one with a procession of about 100 caparisoned elephants.

The Pattambi town will be magnificently illuminated for the festival.

Art forms like Duffmuttu and Kolkali, traditional orchestras like Panchavadyam, Thayambaka and floats are attractions of the festival procession.

The celebrations conclude on the banks of Bharathappuzha with the concerts reaching their profound climax.
