About 'Making Thimila, another drum'

Thimila is an hourglass shaped double-faced drum made from polished jack wood. Thimila is a constituent of the five instruments used in Panchvadyam, the traditional drum orchestra.

Thimila is essential for temple rituals in Kerala. It is mainly used in temples during Sreebali, the ritualistic procession.

Carved out of a single wood the two sides of the drum will be hides are stretched on both sides using bamboo woops. The artiste hangs Thimila on his left shoulder and plays only on the upper side with both hands.

Shown in the video are the different stages in the making of Thimila.
