Nadanpattu is a series of folk songs popular in the rural locales of Kerala. These songs have inherited the pulses of an agrarian culture, its simplicity and sprightliness. The themes of Nadanpattu vary from one region to another, still retaining some common features.
Generally, these songs are invocative, narrative and expressive. These were transmitted from one generation to another orally. It is believed that some Nadanpattu that are hummed by Keralites are about 600 years old. They have undergone linguistic changes over all these years.
