Generations of children in Kerala, South India has been rocked to sleep by their mothers, humming the immortal tune of Irayimman Thampi’s lullaby starting with the words Omanathinkal Kidavo.
The video shows the song being played on Veena and Chenda. The former is a stringed instrument mainly used in classical music; especially Carnatic, while the latter is a percussion instrument used in art forms like Kutiyattam and Kathakali.
Maya Varma playing the Veena and Margi Krishnadas playing the Chenda has been able to bring the melody back to life.
