Giant Redeye or Gangara thyrsis

Giant Redeye (Gangara thyrsis) is also known as Coconut Skipper since it is found mostly around palm trees in forest areas. In India, they are found in regions like Mumbai, Kolkota, Sikkim and Assam.
Adult Giant Redeye has dark, chocolate brown upper side. The forewings have two large quadrate, and a small, triangular, semi-transparent yellow spots in the cell, and three smaller quadrate spots in the apex. Its big red eyes justify the name Giant Redeye. Wingspan is 70-76mm.

Giant Redeyes are crepuscular in habits and during daytime, they hide in concealed spots with tightly closed wings.

Giant Redeyes are found throughout the oriental region where palms are cultivated.
