One of the most protected areas of the Western Ghats in Palakkad district of Kerala is the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary bestowed with verdant flora and varied fauna. Parambikulam is famous for its dam, a part of Parambikulam-Aliyar Project, an inter-state river valley project between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary here is home to a large variety of animal and bird species on the verge of extinction.
