Sri Swathi Thirunal Music College, Thiruvananthapuram

Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, is one of the prime institutions in India. It was started in the year 1939.

Initially known as the Music Academy, this institution was formed in the memory of Swathi Thirunal, the erstwhile ruler of Travancore State, who was also a great composer and patron of music. Later, in 1962, it was renamed as Swathi Thirunal College of Music.

Earlier, the administration of the institution was under the control of the Travancore royal family itself. In 1999, it got affiliated to the University of Kerala. Famous artistes like Dr. K.J. Yesudas, Neyyatinkara Vasudevan, Dr. K. Omanakutty, M.G. Radhakrishnan, Raveendran (music director) were once students of this prestigious institution.
