About 'Kavalam – Land of paddy fields and backwaters'

Located on the shores of Vembanad lake, Kavalam is a picturesque village in Kuttanad region of Alappuzha (Alleppey) district in Kerala.

Abundant in lakes, canals, and paddy fields, Kavalam is accessible by small country boats. Eminent theatre personality and poet Kavalam Narayana Panikkar is a proud son of this tiny village.

The village is notable for its snake boat called Kavalam Chundan, which is a regular participant of many water regattas of the region.

Kavalam is also part of Kerala’s cultural folklore. The place can be reached from Alleppey, Kottayam and Changanacherry by road.
