About 'Charring the fields after harvest in Kuttanadu'

In the paddy fields of Kuttanadu in Alappuzha, Kerala, Padam Karikkal (charring of the field) is performed after the harvest. The remains of the glean like hay and chaff are destroyed by burning them. After this, the fields are ploughed with the tractors and the ash makes the soil more fertile.
