It was on 26th December 2004 that tsunami struck Kovalam beach, a prominent tourist destination of Kerala. The boats, catamarans, and nets of the fishermen community which were on the shore were destroyed completely along with 300 homes of the locality. Due to fast relief and rehabilitation works, Kovalam regained its beauty and grandeur.
