About 'Champakulam moolam snake boat race'

Champakulam Moolam Chundan Vallam Kali is one of the biggest events of Kerala and the first snake boat race of the year. Chundans are a category of boats over 100 feet in length with raised prow. They were called snake boats by the colonial rulers and continue to be known so till date. The regatta is held on the Moolam day of the month Midhunam (June-July) of the Malayalam Calendar which is also the day of the installation of the deity at the Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple. The regatta is conducted in Champakulam River at , Alappuzha (Aleppey).
