Adithyapuram Sun Temple, one of the rare temples dedicated to the ‘Sun God’ is situated around 4 kilometers from Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam district of the State of Kerala. In India, shrines dedicated to the Sun God are very few in number.  The Konark temple in the State of Orissa is known for its intrinsic sculptures and is the only shrine quite popular in this category.  There is no daily performance of poojas (rituals) in the Konark temple. On the other hand, the Adithyapuram Sun temple follows all the rituals on a regular basis. This temple is quite old and is believed to have been constructed in the thretha yuga.
