Dress

Indian dress
Indian dress or Indian clothing consists of a vast array of styles marked by the influences of region, climate, religion gender, local culture and many more. An India tour would unfold before you a stunning variety of clothing styles in different parts of the country.

From ‘phiran’, the ornate wool gown of Kashmir to the kaleidoscopic ‘ghagra kurta and choli’ of Rajasthan to the bright ‘Muga sarees’ of Assam or the traditional tribal costumes of Nagaland to the six-metre ‘Kanchipuram saree‘ of Tamil Nadu, Indian clothing is a grand world in itself.

Western influence
From time immemorial, Indian clothing was influenced by the cultures of invaders and traders who arrived in different parts of the country at various times. But no one among them, except the Western culture, was able to make a pan-Indian presence cutting across the barriers of religion, culture and geography. Western clothing, both formal and casual wares, is quite popular in urban India though rural clothing still retains the ethnic charm.
